Soho Suede
Redefining a once sought after Central London restaurant and bar.
Overview
What had once been a lively destination had become tired and inward-looking; the challenge was to restore its sense of invitation and open it up to the vibrant streets of Central London.
A site of two halves
At ground level, familiarity was important. The palette followed the recognisable Brother Marcus identity but with some additional detailing in the carpentry and finishes to make it fit within the characterful streets of Soho.
Reclaimed mosaic tiling and a panelled ceiling bring a sense of charm.
Bespoke joinery, finished in a dark oil, highlights the grain of the timber and adds warmth throughout.
Upstairs, the atmosphere shifts, with deep reds, curved forms and textured plasterwork working alongside low-level lighting to create an intimate evening space.
Throughout, attention was given to how materials meet and how spaces are used. Materials and detailing were chosen for their durability as well as their warmth, allowing the spaces to feel welcoming while standing up to long-term use.
