Soft Grass

Taking design cues from the natural surroundings

Connected to the land
This woodland sauna is nestled in the serene woodlands of The Treehouses at Lanrick, Scotland, and has been designed as a seamless extension of its natural surroundings. Built using timber from the Lanrick estate, this homegrown retreat reflects a commitment to sustainability and local craftsmanship.

Woodland wellness
A softly lit, understated ‘door in the woods’ blends effortlessly into the landscape. The design follows the site’s natural contours, with earth banked over its sides and roof to minimise visual impact. A biodiverse green roof, planted with vegetation gathered from the surrounding woodland and riverbanks, mirrors the environment while insulating the structure.

Bringing the outside in
Inside, frameless glass provides unobstructed views of the forest, immersing users in nature and dissolving the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces. Every detail — from the melodic birdsong to the earthy scent of damp soil — enhances the serene and intimate atmosphere, offering a truly peaceful retreat.

"Finding the perfect location was pivotal to the project. The sloping site we selected informed the design of the sauna as it's shape flows with the natural contours of the forest ground".
