Blackstain Brick

Restoring and transforming a Victorian terrace home

Heritage reimagined
A full refurbishment and extension transformed this derelict Victorian terraced house close to Hampstead Heath into a bright, spacious contemporary home. The addition of a loft and ground floor extension redefined its spatial flow, while extensive external restoration, including new slate roofs, repointing and bespoke windows and doors, revived the building’s original character.

Combining old with new
The overall design thoughtfully preserves the building’s heritage while seamlessly integrating modern elements. The original staircase has been carefully retained and restored and is complemented by contemporary features including a loft staircase, glass floors and elegant partitions.

Considered materials
At the rear, striking contemporary brickwork contrasts with softer, traditional materials to enrich the building’s vernacular. Internally, extensive upgrades to services and insulation were need alongside significant structural alterations.
