We are absolutely delighted to announce that our “Black and Stone” project has been shortlisted for three additional prestigious architecture awards, further cementing its recognition as an exceptional example of contemporary conservation design.

Three Distinguished Nominations
Following our Scottish Design Awards 2025 nomination, we are thrilled that Black and Stone has now been shortlisted for:
Architects Journal Retrofit and Reuse Awards – Private Renovation Category. This nomination celebrates the project’s innovative approach to working within the historic fabric of the original farm cottage, transforming ruins into a stunning contemporary home while preserving the site’s heritage.
Building Design Online – Architect of the Year Awards Recognition in these awards highlights the design excellence and innovation that Black and Stone represents, showcasing our commitment to creating architecture that thoughtfully responds to both history and contemporary needs.
AJ Architecture Awards 2025 – The Manser Medal (AJ House of the Year Category) Being shortlisted for the prestigious Manser Medal, which recognises the best one-off house of the year, is an extraordinary honour that celebrates the project’s architectural merit and design innovation.

Celebrating Continued Recognition
We are incredibly pleased with these nominations, which validate the vision and meticulous attention to detail that went into creating Black and Stone. Each award recognises different aspects of what makes this project special – from its sensitive approach to retrofit and reuse, to its architectural excellence, and its achievement as an outstanding residential design.
The breadth of recognition across these prestigious platforms demonstrates how Black and Stone successfully balances respect for historical heritage with contemporary design innovation. The project’s ability to resonate with multiple award panels speaks to the universal appeal of thoughtful, well-executed architecture that creates meaningful connections between past and present.

Looking Forward to the Ceremonies
Our team are very much looking forward to attending all three award ceremonies and celebrating alongside fellow nominees who represent the very best of contemporary architecture and design. The opportunity to be part of these distinguished events is a privilege and most exciting.
These nominations represent not just recognition for Black and Stone, but acknowledgment of our team’s dedication to creating architecture that is both innovative and respectful of its context. Whether celebrating retrofit excellence, architectural achievement, or residential design innovation, each nomination reflects our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what thoughtful conservation can achieve.
We extend our congratulations to all the shortlisted projects across these awards and look forward to the celebrations ahead. The recognition that Black and Stone continues to receive reinforces our belief that sensitive architecture, rooted in place, can create homes that honour the past while embracing the future.

We look forward to the upcoming award ceremonies where winners will be announced across all categories. The continued recognition of Black and Stone demonstrates the project’s impact within the architectural community and its success in creating a harmonious relationship between heritage and contemporary design.
